Current Conditions
Happy Waffle Day! At 2:00 am, the temperature near the top of Brighton's Crest chairlift was 36 degrees. Winds on Cardiff Peak are averaging 12 mph out of the south with gusts to 23. In the last 36 hours, the snow depth midway up Solitude's Summit chairlift has decreased 4 inches. In the last 3 weeks, the depth has decreased 28 inches.
Forecast Conditions
The forecast says that yesterday at 5:00 pm until 5:00 am this morning, no new snow is expected. The nighttime low temperature will be 39 degrees. And today, from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am, there is an 85 percent chance of 0 to 1 inch of snow and a 15 percent chance of 1 to 2 inches. The daytime high temperature will be 53 degrees. There will be 25 percent chance of lightning.
Total snowfall of 5 to 10 inches is forecast for the next storm which will begin at approximately 9 am today and end at 10 pm on Saturday. Total water in this storm is expected to be 1.25 to 1.75 inches.
Avalanche Forecast
The Utah Avalanche Center's avalanche forecast for the Salt Lake area on Tuesday, April 23, says, "Thank you for a great season! Regular avalanche forecasts have ended. We will be issuing intermittent updates through May 1st. This most recent update is from Tuesday April 23, 2024. During the spring, there are typically three different avalanche problems: 1. Wet Snow: Wet loose avalanches, wet slab avalanches, and lastly glide avalanches. 2. New Snow: New storm snow instability as soft slab avalanches and loose dry avalanches. 3. Wind Drifted Snow: Wind slabs - soft or hard drifts of wind-blown snow."

Overnight: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy. Low around 32, with temperatures rising to around 34 overnight. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: A slight chance of snow showers between 9am and noon, then snow showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Partly sunny. High near 42, with temperatures falling to around 38 in the afternoon. Southwest wind 8 to 12 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Thursday Night: Snow showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Friday: Snow showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 31. West wind around 12 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
Friday Night: Snow showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. West northwest wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
